Description:
Astute Class Nuclear Submarine is the Haynes Owners’ Workshop Manual on the Royal Navy’s most advanced attack submarine. It was written by Professor Jonathan Gates, a defence consultant with some 35 years’ experience, who joined BAE Systems in 2000 and also wrote the Haynes manual on the Type 45 destroyer. The book explains the design, construction and operation of the Astute class. These are the largest and most powerful attack submarines the Royal Navy has operated. They are nuclear-powered and never need refuelling during their lives, they carry very large sonar arrays, and they are armed with Spearfish heavy torpedoes and Tomahawk cruise missiles. The book also covers the history of the class from the 1980s and the delays and cost problems of its procurement. It is illustrated with over 300 colour photographs and diagrams, including a cutaway of the boat. This copy is in excellent condition.
